Mcafee and Yahoo Partnership
Looks like Yahoo will have a partnership with security company McAfee.
The point of the partnership is to have McAfee alert the user when he seaches on Yahoo, it will tell the users which websites are safe and which websites are not.
An alert pop up will show up when you browse through Yahoo’s results and will alert you that the website that you are about to visit might cotain malicious software/spy/adware etc.
Mcafee has stated that McAfee the technology they are using is a stripped-down version of its full SiteAdvisor technology that is available for free download from the company Web site. Furthermore, there is a paid version of the software which includes more stuff than the free one.
“What we’re doing is bringing McAfee SiteAdvisor data around risks for sites on the Web and integrating it into … Yahoo Search,” said Priyank Garg, director of product management for Yahoo Search.
This Partnership is expected to bring more users to Yahoo. Even though Yahoo is number 2 on most used search engines, in the US this is sure to make it a bigger competitor against Google, the number one most used search engine used today.
As we all know, Microsoft made a bid for Yahoo a couple of months ago, and they cancelled the bid the past Saturday. Yahoo’s stocks went down about $4 dollars yesterday, but they are expected to be steady since the Mcafee, Yahoo partnership is sure to attract more attention.
This new approach to security is expected to take place on Tuesday, it will try to prevent the hardcore offenders, sites that contain “drive-by downloads,” like sites that try to exploit vulnerabilities in a browser in order to download malicious code. Very much like the site that tryed to hack us last week.
When asked about the financial states of the partnership they declined to answer.
Hopefully, this techology will bring more users to Yahoo, and will make Online seaching safer.
