Can’t beat em? join them!

Today, Yahoo has announced that it has teamed up with their rival search engine, Google, to display Google adsense ads on %3 percent of Yahoo’s search results. Google’s ads will appear only for 2 weeks. It’s nice to know that Yahoo is considering a partnership with Google.

Yahoo has said that this is just a test and it that it does not mean they will stay partners with Google.

Since the recent events with the Microsoft bid to buy Yahoo, if Yahoo partners up with Google, they will have created a monopoly, successfully controlling 90% of the internet search business.

In response to Yahoo’s partnership with Google, Microsoft official Brad Smith said,

“Any definitive agreement between Yahoo! and Google would consolidate over 90% of the search advertising market in Google’s hands. This would make the market far less competitive, in sharp contrast to our own proposal to acquire Yahoo! We will assess closely all of our options. Our proposal remains the only alternative put forward that offers Yahoo! shareholders full and fair value for their shares, gives every shareholder a vote on the future of the company, and enhances choice for content creators, advertisers, and consumers.”
